From jellyfish to corals - New fluorescent proteins for live-cell imaging

Isolated from stony corals, monomeric and dimeric CoralHue® Keima-Red are fluorescent proteins that combine bright red fluorescence with the largest available Stokes shift (ex. 440 nm, em. 620 nm). These properties leading to an excellent signal-to-noise ratio make Keima-Red a superb reporter protein for multicolor fluorescence analyses, for monitoring gene expression or for studying protein-protein interaction using fluorescence cross-correlation spectroscopy. Other members of the CoralHue® family embrace the green-to-red photoconverting Kaede and Kikume Green-Red especially for identification of single cells and cell organelles, the monomeric Azami Green, Kusabira Orange and Midoriishi Cyan proteins (with up to 50% brighter fluorescence, better stability in neutral and acidic conditions, and no aggregation problems) for organelle-targeted multi-color labeling, as well as the photochromic Dronpa Green ideal to monitor diffusion or trafficking in live cells.
