Polymerase chain reaction (PCR*) is a common method for synthesizing copies of a specific DNA fragment using a thermostable DNA polymerase and an automated process of heating and cooling down the reaction. It can rapidly amplify a single DNA molecule into many billions of molecules. Over the last several years, the development of novel chemistries and instrumentation platforms has enabled detection of PCR products on a real-time basis. RT-PCR (reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction) is the most sensitive technique for mRNA detection and quantitation currently available. Compared to other commonly used techniques for quantifying mRNA levels RT-PCR can be used to quantify mRNA levels even from very small samples. This technique is sensitive to enable RNA quantitation from a single cell. In vitro transcription of mRNA from a specific DNA template is an essential prerequisite for an in vitro mRNA translation. In vitro transcribed RNA is also commonly used for RNA studies. We offer several tools which are essential in PCR, RT PCR and RNA transcription:
* Polymerase chain reaction: PCR is a patented process owned by Hoffmann-LaRoche, AG. |
