Sept-26: Powering Drug Discovery at Pfizer

The impact of Acetyl-CoA carboxylases (ACCs) on eukaryotic metabolism and metabolic-related disease states is profound. Inhibition of ACC isoforms could be advantageous for lessening many cardiovascular risk factors linked to obesity, diabetes, insulin resistance, and metabolic syndrome. This strategy has captured the attention of pharmaceutical giant Pfizer, which has filed a series of patent applications relating to ACC inhibitor compounds. Each patent and patent application details the use of Transcreener® ADP2 FP Assay in a screen to measure inhibition...

June-08: New Antimicrobials Against Gram-Negative Pathogens

Gram-negative bacterial pathogens pose grave dangers in clinical and environmental settings alike. An estimate of the prevalence of infections due to MDR gram-negative bacilli indicated profound consequences for patient mortality, hospital length of stay, and increased hospital costs. By 2050, it has been estimated that multidrug resistance (in total) will be responsible for 300 million deaths. MsbA - an ABC transporter protein - is critical for virulence, and loss of MsbA function causes rapid membrane disruption and cell death. A library of approximately 3 million small molecules for specific inhibitors of Escherichia coli MsbA was screened. The researchers also used the Transcreener ADP2 FP ATPase Assay from our partner BellBrook Labs.
