| Description: | Treponema pallidum - Infection by T. pallidum has diverse clinical manifestations - initial genital tract lesion followed by disseminated lesions and cardiovascular and neurologic problems and CNS disease manifested as acute syphilitic meningitis. Infection during pregnancy results in numerous birth defects or fetal death. Infections in adults are usually chronic, death or serious disability is rare.
