| Description: | Epstein-Barr Virus - Most EBV infections are acquired during childhood and are asymptomatic. Symptoms, when produced, are undistinguishable from other acute viral syndromes. Many benign and malignant diseases, however, have been associated with EBV in immunocompromised patients. EBV causes infectious mononucleosis - an acute, self-limiting febrile illness in young adults, characterized by fever, sore throat, abdominal discomfort, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, tender generalized lymphadenopathy, palatal petechaie and periorbital edema, as well as with Burkitt's lymphoma. In transplant patients, early and late onset lymphoproliferative diseases are often caused by EBV. AmpliSens® EBV-screen/monitor-FRT PCR kit is an in vitro nucleic acid amplification test for qualitative and quantitative detection of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) DNA in clinical material (peripheral blood plasma, amniotic fluid, cerebrospinal fluid (liquor), saliva, oropharyngeal swabs, bronchoalveolar lavage, whole human blood, white blood cells, and viscera biopsy material) by using real-time hybridization-fluorescence detection. |
