Caspase 3 is a cysteine protease that is rapidly activated during apoptosis and that cleaves several substrates, including poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP). Caspase 3 is activated by Caspases 8, 9 and 10 and cleaves and activates caspase 6 and 7. Caspase 3 cleaves the amyloid precursor protein (APP) contributing to Amyloid beta formation and has been implicated in Alzheimer"s disease and proposed as a target for drug discovery. Ac-DQMD-AMC is reported to be a more specific substrate for Caspase 3 than Ac-DEVD-AMC. Activity is quantified by release of free fluorescent 7-amino-4-methylcoumarin (AMC) which excites at 360-380 nm and emits at 440-460 nm. » References 1. Talanian, R.V. et al.
