Caspase 6 is a cysteine protease involved in the execution phase of apoptosis, mediating neuronal shrinkage. In addition, it has important roles in neurodegenerative disorders such as Huntington"s, Parkinson"s, and Alzheimer"s diseases. Caspase 6 cleaves the mutated huntintin protein and the amyloid precursor protein resulting in the aggregating protein fragments typical of Huntington"s and Alzheimer"s diseases respectively. Activity is quantified by release of free fluorescent 7-amino-4-trifluoromethylcoumarin (AFC) which excites at 395-400 nm and emits at 495-505 nm. » References 1. LeBlanc, A. et al.
